Overview

Long Point is a 40 km sand peninsula extending into Lake Erie, designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve. It's one of Ontario's most iconic kite spots. The peninsula creates unique conditions: flat water on the bay side (north) and waves on the lake side (south). The thermal SW wind is dominant in summer. Provincial park with camping.

Lake Erie fresh water — the warmest and shallowest of the Great Lakes. Bay side: flat water, shallow, ideal for freestyle and learning. Lake side: chop to waves depending on fetch. Fine sandy bottom. Warm water in summer (22-26°C). Very shallow depth on the bay side.

Hazards

UNESCO biosphere reserve — strict regulations, wildlife protected zones. Kitesurfing may be restricted in certain park areas. Coastal currents possible on the lake side. Lake Erie can become very rough quickly (shallow lake). Violent thunderstorms possible in summer. Mosquitoes in the evening.
