United Kingdom · England

Spot currently openIntermediate level 50.16 | -5.03

Overview

Shingle beach at St Mawes (Cornwall), below the lower car park of St Mawes Castle, which is the easiest access point. The spot is used for windsurfing and kitesurfing. It works mainly in north to north-westerly winds; the water is flat in a northerly on an ebbing tide, and a southerly swell can build. Guides recommend it for better-than-beginner riders.

Wind specificities

A windsurfing guide says the spot is best in west, north and north-west winds, and good in south-west and south as well. In a south-westerly, one guide suggests Tavern Beach, below the Tresanton hotel, as an alternative: flat water or bump and jump, and the beach disappears at high tide.

Hazards

Current and shipping channel: heavy commercial shipping traffic linked to the Falmouth yards.
