The Kaiserwiese is a kite and windsurf spot at the NW corner of Norderney, east of the Milchbar, between two long groynes that form clean and powerful waves. Particularly interesting in SW wind (few other North Sea island spots work in SW) because the coastline turns south here — the wind arrives cross-shore unobstructed. The groynes "sort" the waves and make them roll cleanly in regular sets. At high tide: beach totally submerged, access only via metal staircase from the promenade. Off-season: beautiful relatively uncrowded wave spot.

SW = unique direction on Norderney: the coastline turns south here, allowing SW wind to arrive freely side-onshore. The other spots (Januskopf, Weisse Düne) are offshore or unfavorable in SW. The Kaiserwiese is therefore THE SW spot of the island. Long groynes: sorted and powerful waves in regular sets.
Long and powerful groynes — sort waves between the groynes (surf only at HW). Parking only off-season — difficult access in summer. High tide: beach entirely submerged, access only via metal staircase from the promenade. Kite only outside marked swimming zones.
