Spot functioning

The spot works primarily with west to northwest winds (onshore on the North Sea side). The lagoon side (east/south) offers sheltered flat water when conditions are too strong on the west beach. In easterly winds, conditions become offshore on the North Sea side but create perfect flat water in the lagoon. Low tide: huge dry sand area usable for landkite.

In offshore easterly winds, the beach width (over 1 km) creates mirror-smooth water, perfect for freestyle. This is the Danish spot with the most strong wind hours: 2,519 hours/year above 22 knots.

Parking

Drive directly onto the beach by car. Rømø island is connected to the mainland by a causeway (Rømødæmningen). Located approximately 3 hours drive from Hamburg, Germany. Large parking areas on the sand.

Wind specificities

Exposed North Sea position providing exceptional raw wind power. This is the spot with the most impressive wind statistics among all 49 spots: 3,823 kiteable hours/year and 2,519 strong wind hours (22+ knots). West to northwest winds are the most frequent and strongest. Windiest months: June (534h), July (516h), May (501h).

Hazards

High tide can trap cars on the beach - monitor tide times carefully. Soft sand can bog down vehicles. Strong currents in Wadden Sea channels. Cold water year-round: 5/3 mm wetsuit November to April, 4/3 mm May to October. North Sea side features powerful conditions reserved for experienced riders.
