The town of Dandridge, founded in 1793, is Tennessee's second oldest town. Lake level varies significantly by season — check the level before heading out. On the water

Fresh water with temperature ranging from 10°C/50°F in spring to 27°C/80°F in midsummer. Wetsuit needed in spring and fall (4/3mm), shorty or lycra sufficient in summer. The bottom is muddy and sandy. The lake is large and chop can build in sustained wind. Lake level varies significantly — the lake is drawn down in winter, exposing large areas of bottom. Best season from May to September.

Hazards

Violent thunderstorms frequent in summer — lightning is a lethal danger on the water, leave immediately when storms approach. Highly variable lake level — shifting sandbars and submerged obstacles. Heavy motorboat traffic in summer, especially on weekends. Submerged tree stumps possible. Murky water — limited visibility. Snakes (water moccasins) possible near shoreline.
