Overview

Dewey Beach is a kitesurfing spot on the barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay, just south of Rehoboth Beach. This small beach town is known for its festive atmosphere and beach bars. The ocean side offers Atlantic wave conditions, while the bay is accessible a short walk away for flat water. It's one of Delaware's most popular spots, combining varied conditions and lively nightlife. The Delaware coast kite community regularly gathers here.

Atlantic Ocean on the east side with waves and swell. Sandy bottom. Sandbars at low tide. Flat water access on Rehoboth Bay on the west side a short walk away. Surf conditions in northeast swell. Cool water — wetsuit needed except in mid-summer. Moderate longshore currents.

Very numerous swimmers in summer — popular tourist area. Strict kitesurfing restrictions in summer — check local regulations. Longshore currents. Nor'easters with strong winds. Sharks and jellyfish. Risk of fines if regulations not followed. Cold water off-season.
