Overview

Towers Road is the main ocean-side spot at Delaware Seashore State Park. The east-facing beach offers Atlantic ocean conditions with waves and wind. The name refers to the former military watchtowers along the coast. This state park protects an undeveloped coastal section between Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach. The spot offers both ocean and bay access — crossing the barrier island leads to the flat water of Indian River Bay. One of Delaware's best spots for varied conditions.

Atlantic Ocean with waves and swell. Good surf conditions in northeast and east swell. Sandy bottom. Sandbars at low tide. Longshore currents present. Cool water — wetsuit needed except in mid-summer. The bay side (Indian River Bay) offers flat water as an alternative.

Longshore currents. Nor'easters with very strong winds and rough seas. Swimmers in summer. Sharks and jellyfish. State park entrance fee in summer. Check kitesurfing restrictions. Cold water in spring and fall.
