Strand is one of the most popular kitesurfing spots on the eastern shore of False Bay. The long sandy beach stretches several kilometers between Strand and Gordon's Bay. The SE wind crosses the entire bay and arrives here with strength and consistency. The spot is very busy in summer and hosts many competitions. The vibe is friendly with beachfront restaurants and cafés.
Works mainly in SE, SSW and SW, from October to March. Wind picks up early afternoon and can blow very strong. Rideable at all tides but low tide offers a wider beach. Many kite schools. The spot is exposed and can get very windy — bring small kites.
Chop to small waves depending on wind direction. Sandy bottom. Water at 17-21°C, warmer than the Atlantic side — a 3/2 wetsuit is enough, sometimes a shorty in mid-summer. Moderate lateral current.

Open all year round
Large parking along the Strand beachfront. Paid parking in some areas. Busy urban area but car break-ins remain a risk — leave nothing visible.
Sharks: great white sharks present in False Bay. Strong wind: SE can exceed 35 knots, bring appropriate kite sizes. Lateral current. Boat traffic. Car break-ins.
The SE (Cape Doctor) wind crosses all of False Bay and arrives side-onshore to side-shore on this west-facing coast. Typical strength 18-30+ knots — often stronger than Muizenberg as the wind accelerates crossing the bay. SSW and SW also work (onshore). Season from October to March. Wind is often more consistent and powerful than on the bay's western shore.
