Generally flat surface with slight chop during thermal winds. Westerly winds at 12-22 knots in summer. Wide and accessible waterway with a sand beach for launching.

Hazards

River traffic: frequent barges, tugboats, and recreational boats near Portland. River current that can carry riders downstream. Protected wildlife areas on Sauvie Island: respect restrictions. Possible submerged tree stumps and debris. Cold water outside summer. Heavy recreational boat traffic on weekends. Power lines in some areas.
