Overview
East Beach is the main kitesurf spot on Galveston Island, located at the island's eastern tip, facing the Gulf of Mexico. It's the only Galveston beach where vehicles and alcohol are allowed, creating a festive atmosphere. The wide beach offers good launch space away from the Seawall. The proximity to the Galveston ship channel entrance influences currents. It's the most popular spot in the Houston area for kiting, often crowded on weekends.

Strong tidal currents at the Galveston channel entrance — do not drift eastward. Intense maritime traffic (container ships, tankers). Sharks frequent at the channel entrance. Jellyfish. Many swimmers and partygoers on the beach. Vehicles on the sand. Shore break in strong swell.
