Fiumaretta is one of the most renowned kitesurfing spots in Liguria, located at the mouth of the Magra River, on the border between Liguria and Tuscany. The sandy beach faces the Gulf of La Spezia, with a magnificent view of Portovenere and the Cinque Terre. The spot benefits from an excellent southwest thermal wind (Libeccio/sea thermal) that blows regularly in the afternoon during summer. The body of water at the Magra mouth offers a flat protected zone, ideal for freestyle and learning, while the open sea allows for more committed sessions. It is the reference spot for the La Spezia area, attracting riders from all of eastern Liguria and neighbouring Tuscany.

Parking
Parking along the coastal road of Fiumaretta (municipality of Ameglia). Free and paid spaces depending on the area. In summer, arrive early to find a space on weekends. Direct beach access.
Wind specificities
The southwest thermal wind picks up in early afternoon (1-2 PM) and blows until sunset, between 12 and 22 knots. It is strengthened by the channelling effect of the Gulf of La Spezia. Synoptic Libeccio can also blow hard (20-30 knots) during weather systems. Scirocco (SE) is less frequent but also works.
Hazards
Currents at the Magra mouth, especially after rain. Shore break in southwest swell. Boat traffic in the port channel. Rocks on the sides. Swimming area to respect in summer.
