Puerto de Güímar is an alternative spot on the northeast coast of Tenerife, about 20 minutes north of El Médano on the highway. It works when the wind backs too far north and doesn't reach El Médano with full power.
The spot is located behind breakwaters at a small harbour. Conditions resemble Pozo Izquierdo (Gran Canaria) — big round rocks at the shore, side to side-onshore wind, and on good days waves up to mast-high.
You rarely see kiters here — limited launch space, crowded with just a handful of riders inside the breakwaters. It's primarily a windsurfing and wingfoil spot, but works for experienced kitesurfers who know the conditions. Not for beginners.
Ride inside the breakwaters or venture outside for waves. Rocky entry requires care. Board leash recommended. Primarily a windsurf/wingfoil spot with limited kite use.
Choppy to waves 0.5–2m+ inside and outside breakwaters. Rocky bottom. Water 18–23°C. 3/2mm wetsuit and reef boots.

Year-round. Best when wind is too northerly for El Médano.
Take the highway toward Santa Cruz from El Médano (~20 min). Exit at "Polígono Industrial" after Güímar. Drive straight down to the sea, past a small group of houses. Continue south along the beach road. Parking near the spot.
Rocky shore: big round volcanic rocks at the water's edge. Difficult entry/exit.
Limited space: narrow beach, a handful of riders fills it up. Kite launching/landing tricky.
Currents: breakwaters can create strong current channels.
Not for beginners under any circumstances.
Works with N to NNE wind — the wind direction that doesn't work well at El Médano. Side-shore to side-onshore. Can be very strong (20–30+ knots) and gusty.
