Overview

Circolo Surf Torbole is a legendary spot on Lake Garda, located in Torbole sul Garda, at the far north of the lake, on the Trentino side. Torbole is THE historic mecca for windsurfing and kitesurfing on Lake Garda, hosting international competitions since the 1980s. Torbole's position at the northern tip of the lake makes it the ideal spot for the Peler (north wind) which is strongest and most consistent here. The afternoon Ora (SSW) also blows well. The Circolo Surf is the historic club of the area, a benchmark for wind sports on the Garda. The setting is spectacular between the cliffs of Monte Brione and the turquoise waters of the lake.

Spot functioning

Peler sessions early morning (arrive around 6-7am). Ora sessions in the afternoon. The Circolo Surf offers services (changing rooms, storage). Launch from pebble beaches. Regulated sailing zone. Many schools on site.

On the water

Flat to slightly choppy water. Fresh water, 12-24°C depending on the season. Deep water quickly. Pebble bottom. Flat conditions + strong wind = foiling and freeride paradise.

Parking

Paid parking in Torbole. Spaces along the lakefront. In high season, arrive very early (6am for Peler sessions). Large car park at the village entrance.

Wind specificities

Torbole catches the Peler at full power: this north wind blows from 6am to noon, often 20-35 knots. It is the windiest spot on the lake in the morning. The Ora (SSW) takes over around 1pm and blows until 6pm, generally 12-20 knots. The transition between the two winds sometimes creates a calm period around noon. Spring and autumn offer the best Peler sessions.

Hazards

Very strong Peler in the morning (25-35 knots) in this northern part of the lake. Ferry traffic between Torbole and Malcesine. Cold water in spring. Pebbles at the shore. Gusts channelled by the mountains. Demanding spot in the morning.
