The kite launching area is located at the crossroads of Chalet Le Point and the Steinlebach farm inn. The area is vast and presents no major dangers. More than 100 hectares to welcome you near the ski slopes.
The pleasure of committed practice or pure riding, snowkiting finds all its dimension here, in an exceptional setting.

Local association recommendations
A safety commission meets once a year before the resort opens. Here is the 2008 report: Rémy Kauffmann attended the safety commission meeting at Markstein this morning, December 15. All resort stakeholders were present: Prefecture, the mayors of the municipalities, the resort director, ski patrollers, volunteer rescuers, gendarmerie, Markstein residents, downhill and cross-country skiing managers.
So, here is the information concerning us and kiting...
  • The license is still strongly recommended, as our credibility with the authorities is at stake. (Those who want to bypass this unfortunately don't realize the efforts it represents towards the authorities) who consider us organized and responsible. So thank you to riders who come independently to the Markstein site to join a club. They will be happy to welcome you.
  • Access to the spot must be done exclusively via the ski slopes. Tickets will be on sale at La Bulle to avoid queuing at the ticket office. -crossing the slopes is forbidden when the resort is open. -a pedestrian access path starts from behind Wolf's place, crosses the Bichette, and the summit of Jungfraukopf. From there, it's easy to reach the spot.
  • Gendarmerie checks will be carried out... -again, our credibility is at stake, respect the safety instructions.
  • During the CKS, the license is mandatory, because this event is organized by the club, and the president's responsibility is engaged.
Spot functioning
Through the Thann valley, go up via Lake Kruth. Through the Guebwiller valley. The access to the spot is in front of the Wolf hotel. Parking nearby. Access to the spot is via the ski slopes. Go down the Fédérale and take the Steinlebach ski lift.
If it is closed, go via the top of the Fédérale and reach the crossroads or the Trehkopf. Crossing the slopes on foot is prohibited. Foot access is from behind the Wolf hotel, reaching the top of the Fédérale. Lift tickets are available at La Bulle, to avoid queuing at the ticket office. You need 2 tickets for one ascent.

Wind specificities
The ideal conditions: North East in anticyclonic situation over the entire spot with winds of 15 to 25 knots. West North West at Trehkopf between 15 and 25 knots (reduced area).
Hazards
Venturi effect at the mountain pass when wind exceeds 25 knots. Be careful as some poles may be at surface level if the snow depth is insufficient. The fence wires are laid on the ground and can be dangerous when snow cover is thin.
It is essential to identify these areas. Also be careful of the ski lift cables. A buffer zone of at least 100 to 150 meters is necessary. Snowshoers, cross-country skiers, hikers. Be aware that some routes cross the snowkite spot. It is recommended to be respectful of all users.
