McDonald Lake kitesurf spot
Canada · Alberta
Overview
McDonald Lake is a small lake west of Calgary, at 1087 m altitude, in the transition zone between the prairies and the Rocky Mountain foothills. The high altitude reflects the proximity of the mountains.
This foothills lake benefits from powerful Chinook winds descending from the nearby Rockies. At this altitude, wind is often stronger and more consistent than on the plains. The lake offers adapted sailing space for kite sessions with Rocky Mountain views. Season from June to September.
