Freesurf Shop & School

Freesurf Shop & School is a surf shop and school in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, at 1 place du Commerce. The website shows a 2026 copyright and announces a season from early March to the end of November, seven days a week, with booking 24 hours in advance. The school is mobile between the beaches of the Royan area, with a shuttle included.

The 1.5-hour lessons are for beginners and experienced surfers alike, from age 10, in groups of up to 8, with courses of 2 to 5 days, private lessons and a year-round "Pack Souplesse" on request, as well as rates for groups and works councils. Equipment, including wetsuits and boards suited to each level, is provided for lessons, and discovery sessions include equipment loan. The school also runs paddle sessions.

Thomas, who holds the state surf instructor diploma and the BNSSA lifeguard certificate, teaches the lessons, with professional liability insurance. The shop lists brands such as Torq, Vissla, Pyzel, FCS, Creatures and Bradley; course equipment comes from Quiksilver, Roxy and Billabong.
