California Surf Waiao Beach House

California Surf Waiao Beach House is a backpacker-style hostel and surf school a few steps from Wai'ao Beach in Toucheng, Yilan County, across from Wai'ao station. The surf school operates there under the name Waiao Surf N' Sport.

The founders, who grew up in California, have been teaching surfing at Wai'ao for more than a decade. Lessons last two hours with a Western or Taiwanese instructor, with board and wetsuit provided and free board rental for the rest of the day. Morning and afternoon classes are available for groups of all sizes, for kids and adults. Beginners practise in the shallow inside zone, advanced students in the deeper outside zone.

You can also rent boards by the day or the week, stay on site in a dorm or a Japanese-style room, and relax at the seaside cafe.
