Hibi Surfing School (ハイビサーフィンスクール)

Hibi Surfing School is a surf school in Hamagawa, in the town of Chatan on Okinawa's west coast, near Sunabe beach. It welcomes beginners, solo travellers and groups, with small-group teaching, and also runs stand up paddle outings.

The school's master is a professional surfer who gained his Japanese professional licence in 1991 and has been a certified ocean safety instructor since 2009. He works with instructors that include a member of Japan's international competition team. Lessons last about two hours, are given in Japanese and English, and photos of the session are sent to students afterwards.

Experienced surfers can follow a guide to the best spot of the day, rent a board alone, a wetsuit or a stand up paddle board, or have a custom board made. The Sunabe beach clubhouse has changing rooms, showers and parking.
