School Presentation
Torquay Surfing Academy is a family-run surf school founded in 2001 in Torquay by Grayme "Gally" Galbraith, a former competitor with three Australian shortboard titles. It is now led by his son Chase, with a team of local surfers.
The Bell Street surf centre is a few minutes' walk from Torquay Surf Beach, with hot showers, lockers, changing rooms and parking. Lessons (group, private, multi-private, the Grom Squad for kids and advanced coaching) run at Torquay, Jan Juc, Bancoora, Point Addis and Lorne, at beaches where the school holds a permit. Private stand-up paddleboard lessons plus school and corporate programs are also offered.
The school hires out more than 200 surfboards, along with stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, bodyboards and wetsuits, and sells second-hand gear online.
