Kitesurfing Lanka
Dutch Bay Road, Kandakuliya, Kalpitiya · North Western Province · Sri Lanka
School Presentation
Kitesurfing Lanka (KSL) is a kitesurf camp at Kandakuliya on the Kalpitiya peninsula, between the lagoon and the ocean. It was founded in 2010 by Dilsiri Welikala, described as Sri Lanka's first local kite instructor, and Frenchman Léo Moret.
The IKO-affiliated school teaches kitesurfing and wing foiling from first lessons to progression coaching, with gear rental. The shallow lagoon suits beginners, and water temperatures around 27 °C mean no wetsuit is needed.
The camp also has a kite shop with repair service, a restaurant and bar, and accommodation ranging from glamping to beachfront bungalows. Yoga, kayaking, diving and excursions round out a stay. The website is available in six languages.
There are two wind seasons: summer, from mid-May to mid-October (18 to 30 knots, cross-shore), and winter, from mid-December to mid-March (15 to 25 knots).
