New Plymouth Surf School is a small surf school based at Fitzroy Beach in New Plymouth, Taranaki. It is run by Karine, who comes from the Netherlands, with head coach Dominika, who has lived in the region since 2013.
Lessons are held in small groups, always at the beach best suited to the day's conditions. There are three formats: kids' lessons from age 9 (about one instructor per five children, in the whitewater near the shore), women-only lessons, and mixed lessons open to kids, women and men. Group lessons have one instructor for six students.
Every lesson includes a beginner surfboard and a correctly fitted full-length wetsuit. No experience is needed.
