Whitby Surf School

Whitby Surf School teaches surfing and stand up paddleboarding on West Cliff beach in Whitby, at the foot of the cliff lift on the Yorkshire coast. It welcomes beginners and improvers, including children from 8, with qualified instructors and all equipment included.

Group lessons last two hours for up to 16 people (a minimum of three bookings is needed for a session to run); private lessons are also available. Each session includes a safety briefing, a warm-up and beach coaching before heading into the water, and it is rearranged if the sea is too big or completely flat.

The school also runs stand up paddleboard sessions, surfboard and wetsuit hire, regular clubs (women's club, kids' clubs, summer beach club), school and group sessions, stag and hen days, and a small online shop of surf and beach accessories. A second base operates at Sandsend. Reopening was announced for April 2026.
