Saysay Watersports

Saysay Watersports is the oldest board-sports business in Tangier: a shop and a school in one, teaching kitesurfing and surfing since 2007, and still the only kitesurf school we could identify along the whole northern Atlantic coast of Morocco, from Kenitra to the Strait of Gibraltar.

Lessons take place outside the city, on the local stretches of water: the beaches of Cap Spartel and Achakar some fifteen kilometres west of Tangier, and above all the Tahaddart lagoon, the shallow flat-water river mouth between Asilah and Tangier that serves as the learning ground. The school also takes students down to Asilah and Sidi Mghait, and runs coaching weeks and kitesurf camps with accommodation in a villa, in a kasbah or in Asilah. Instructors are advertised as IKO certified and speak French, English, Spanish and Arabic; private lessons are one student per instructor, from the age of 12.

The shop in central Tangier, inside the Meftah arcade, sells surf, longboard, bodyboard, kitesurf, skate and BMX gear, wetsuits and clothing, and repairs boards and kite canopies — the only repair workshop we know of north of the Agadir region.

The business publishes no season and no opening hours of its own, as it has no working website. The only hours we found are old and contradict each other: daily 5 pm to 9 pm according to a 2016 article, 3 pm to 8 pm Monday to Friday according to a more recent directory listing. Call ahead.
