School Presentation
According to its website, Sunbird Sport is Croatia's first windsurfing and catamaran school. It was founded in 1981 by Elmar Vogel and is now run by Ivan Brčić. It is based in Čikat Bay in Mali Lošinj, a sheltered bay surrounded by Aleppo pines.
VDWS-certified windsurf lessons are taught in Croatian, English, German and Italian in groups of 6 to 8 at most: a 5-day basic course (about 12 hours, leading to the international VDWS licence), a 3-day trial course, kids' courses (age 7+, lightweight sails), a refresher course, an advanced course (tack, jibe, harness, footstraps, freestyle) and private lessons. Beginner courses start every Monday at 10:00, advanced courses at 14:00.
The school also offers catamaran lessons (from age 14), windsurf equipment rental (boards, sails, wetsuits, "surfpool" packages), SUP with guided tours (bay, sunset, night), kayaks and bikes, as well as group stays, school programmes and team building. Booking is advised in July and August; EUR 10 discount when booking by email or phone.
