Newtownards Sailing Club
161 Portaferry Road, BT22 2AJ Newtownards · Northern Ireland · United Kingdom
Description
Newtownards Sailing Club sits on the shore of Strangford Lough in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland. Besides dinghy sailing, it has an active group of windsurfers and a wingsurfing and wing foiling group.
The wind is mostly onshore over flat water, with a sheltered bay beside the club that suits beginners; at low tide about half a mile of waist-deep water makes practising water starts and gybes easy. From spring to autumn, Tuesday evening is windsurfing club night, with rescue boat cover on standby, for all levels. RYA lessons are open to members and non-members alike, with club equipment for new starters. The club also hosts Irish Windsurfing Association events, including slalom rounds.
Paddleboarding, kayaking, open-water swimming and powerboating are also practised.
