Windsurfing-Club Steckborn (WSCS) is an association founded on 27 March 1981 in Steckborn, on the Swiss shore of the Untersee, the western part of Lake Constance, in the canton of Thurgau. It represents windsurfers' interests, works to keep lake access open in and around Steckborn, runs club events and competitions, and maintains ties with Swiss Sailing, other water sports clubs and the authorities. Its members practise freestyle and racing windsurfing, windfoiling, wing foiling and pump foiling; beginners and experienced riders of any nationality are welcome.
The club sails from the Surfplatz in the Feldbach area, a publicly accessible gravel beach with a lawn for rigging, public toilets from spring to autumn and a barbecue spot. The club describes it as the easiest and safest windsurfing access on the Untersee: the best conditions come with westerly weather, while in a bise (easterly wind) riders have to cross a wind shadow of about 100 metres. Kitesurfing is prohibited in this part of the lake. Parking is regulated: gear can be unloaded in the access road shared by the wastewater plant and the Surfplatz, with parking available in the Feldbach area, at the public beach or, in the evening and at weekends, at the Bernina company car park.
Active members get privileged access to the lake, low-cost storage for their gear near the water, a discounted racing licence and use of the club's equipment: race boards, children's rigs and a tandem board. The club website posts reports of windy days, pictures from a webcam overlooking the water and readings from the MeteoSwiss stations in Steckborn and Schaffhausen.
