Surf Club Rorschach

Surf Club Rorschach, founded in 1975, is a board sports association based on the Swiss shore of Lake Constance, at the locality of Neuseeland in Rorschacherberg (canton of St. Gallen). Built around windsurfing, it now has more than 200 members who windsurf, foil, wave-surf, stand up paddle, wingfoil and pumpfoil; its motto sums up the spirit: "Surf & SUP, Wing & Foil, Chill & Grill".

The club has a lakeside plot, a members-only building and a jetty on the lake. Its website links to a webcam, readings from a nearby weather station and the Lake Constance storm warning, and an online area is reserved for members. Club life combines sessions on the water and evenings by the lake; the website mentions neither lessons nor equipment rental.

Membership is open to active practitioners of one of these disciplines who are willing to take part in club life: applicants are sponsored by an existing member, then the committee invites them to a meeting or an activity before confirming their admission. Immediate neighbours can apply for a residents' membership, which gives access to the lake via the club grounds and jetty, without a key to the building or a role in club life.
