Overview

Sachenbach is located in the NE part of Walchensee, accessible from the Urfeld museum car park. Alternative spot to Zwergern, particularly recommended in autumn when the thermal wind doesn't push all the way to the southwest of the lake. Same thermal wind system (NE), but the spot is further north and often gets the wind earlier and for longer in the late season. 40 minutes on foot from the car park (unpaved path — bicycle strongly recommended). Two possible launch areas in the main bay and the next bay 60m to the south.

Wind specificities

Same thermal system as Zwergern (NE wind, 11am–5pm), but more productive in autumn when the wind doesn't reach the SW of the lake. Avoid sailing towards the Jachenau (valley bottom to the south) — return impossible.

Hazards

Rocky and cracked lake bed at the shore — surf shoes essential. Very narrow launch area on the rocks (technique required — some use a karabiner hook system to start solo from the rock). Gusty and hard-to-predict wind. Cold water. Sailboats on the lake. Do not sail towards the Jachenau (downwind valley bottom) — return impossible.
