On the water
The water body faces the Atlantic with a sandy bottom and sandbars creating well-shaped waves. In easterly trade winds, waves of 3-6 feet are regular. In northeast swells, conditions can be powerful (6-10 feet). The Ponce de Leon Inlet generates strong currents and quality waves. The water is warm. Wave conditions are among the best in Florida.
Hazards
Sharks very present in this area — highest concentration of bites in the world (usually minor). Do not ride in murky water or at dusk. Strong currents near Ponce de Leon Inlet. Longshore drift currents. The beach allows cars — watch for traffic on the sand. In westerly winds, conditions are offshore.
