Saly is Senegal's premier seaside resort, on the Petite Côte about 80 km south of Dakar. The bay is lined with hotels, restaurants and tourist activities.
For kitesurf, a good afternoon thermal picks up reaching 15-20 knots (best April to June). Water is relatively flat with slight swell but no waves in the bay. Wind direction: NW to NE, side-shore to slightly side-off.
For launching, head to the north of the bay past Hôtel Espadon, near the Résidence Safari Village or Les Christallines — wider beach and more open area. The Saly Sailing Club near Hôtel Lamentin offers sailing services and kite assistance.
Bring your own gear — no kite rental available locally. The beach at Hôtel Baobab is a perfect sandbank for launching with a small clean wave.
Well-developed tourist infrastructure with countless hotels, restaurants and nightlife.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Narrow beach: in the centre of the bay, launching/landing is difficult between parasols, sun loungers, palm trees and buildings. Move to the north of the bay past Hôtel Espadon for a wider beach.
Rocks: some rocks towards the south near Tama Lodge / Mbour entrance.
Wind shadow: side/onshore wind is disturbed near shore by trees and buildings — better air offshore.
