Moulay Bouzerktoun is one of the most renowned wave spots in the world for windsurfing and kitesurfing, located 25 km north of Essaouira. This small fishing village sits on a rocky point where powerful Atlantic swells meet consistent NE trade winds, creating world-class wave-riding conditions.
The spot features two main waves over a rocky reef plate: one breaks at the foot of the cliffs, the other further south at the beach. The wind is side-shore starboard (from the right looking at the sea), 20–35 knots during season, perfect for wave riding with a right-hander that peels along the reef.
Moulay has hosted prestigious competitions: Windsurf Trilogy (1997), Wave Classic, PKRA World Kite Tour, IWT International Windsurf Tour (2016–2018). Home spot of legendary Moroccan rider Boujmaa Guilloul. Magic Fun windsurf center operates on site.
Warning: This is primarily a windsurf spot. Kite launching/landing space is limited on the rocky shore, and kiters aren't always welcomed during prime conditions. North of the village, a vast sandy beach with dunes offers more space for kiters.

Two waves over reef plate. Right-hander peeling along the rocks. Best on push/rising tide — low tide exposes dangerous reef. High tide pushes riders against cliff rocks. Summer: smaller choppy waves, strongest wind. Spring/autumn: bigger cleaner swell (1.5–3m), moderate wind. Waves section: left for surf, centre for bump & jump, right for jumps.

Year-round. Peak season March–October. Best waves: spring (March–June) and autumn. Best wind: June–September. Quiet winter months for surfing.

Reef plate bottom, not sand. Waves 0.5–1m summer (choppy), 1.5–3m spring/autumn (clean). Water 17–20°C. Full wetsuit 3/2–4/3mm.
25 km north of Essaouira, 30 min drive. Road access to village. Campervans park along the beach. Small café-restaurant on the cliff with panoramic view of the spot. Accommodation: surfer houses in village.
NE trade wind locally called 'Charki'. Blows year-round, peaks mid-March to mid-September reaching force 7. Side-shore starboard. 20–35 knots during season. Winter: 3–4 Beaufort, less consistent, variable direction. Wind starts first and blows up to 10 knots stronger than Sidi Kaouki in the afternoon. Taguinza nearby is even windier.
Rocky reef plate underwater — beware at low tide, waist-deep holes in the reef. Launching between rocks is technical. Waves up to mast-high out of season (1.5–3m spring/autumn). Very strong wind in summer (force 7). Can be extremely crowded (~100 riders). Side-offshore can push out. No dedicated rescue. Expert spot.
