Caye Caulker is a laid-back kitesurfing spot on a small island off Belize, less crowded than Ambergris Caye. Launch zones center near the Split and Lazy Lizard bar.
Northeast to southeast trade winds blow consistently, averaging 15-18 knots in winter and spring (December to June), and 10-16 knots in summer. Best conditions are in February and June. The barrier reef about 500 m offshore creates flat or slightly choppy water inside the reef.
Water is shallow inside the reef, ideal for learning. Watch for water taxi traffic which can create choppy conditions. Equipment rental and lessons are available on-site.
