Overview
La Pointe Espagnol is a kitesurf spot at the mouth of the Gironde estuary (Charente-Maritime), near Royan on the north bank. This point at the entrance of the estuary catches the dominant North-West wind blowing in from the Atlantic — the classic sea breeze direction for this coast.
Tidal spot with significant currents from the Gironde estuary — one of the largest estuaries in Europe. Heavy maritime traffic from vessels entering and exiting the Gironde. Experienced riders only. The view across the estuary to the Médoc is impressive. Watch tide times carefully.
