Overview
Alki Beach is an iconic kitesurfing spot in Seattle's West Seattle neighborhood, on the shores of Puget Sound. This long sandy beach facing northwest is one of Seattle's most popular locations. The spot works with south to southwest winds and features a lively urban setting with views of downtown Seattle and the Olympic Mountains. The beach is very busy in summer — use caution around other users. Alki Point Lighthouse marks the southern end of the beach.

Riding in Puget Sound with cold saltwater (8-14°C/46-57°F). A 4/3 to 5/3mm wetsuit recommended. Light to moderate chop depending on wind and tidal currents. Significant tidal currents around Alki Point. Sandy bottom in the main area, rocky near the lighthouse.
Hazards
Extremely busy beach in summer — swimmers, kayakers, paddle boarders everywhere. Cold Puget Sound water — hypothermia. Maritime traffic including nearby Seattle-Bainbridge ferry route. Tidal currents around Alki Point. Driftwood. Volleyball and beach activity areas — caution when rigging and launching.
