On the water

Waddenzee — flat tidal mudflats. Salt water. Shallow (walking area at right tide). No swell. Seals nearby. Spectacular scenery. Unique beginner experience. Access tide-dependent.

Parking

Free parking at Oude Steiger 1, 9163 GV Nes, Ameland. Short walk to the kite zone on the west side of the ferry pier.

Wind specificities

S/SW/SE/SSE best — offshore from island (blowing across the Waddenzee mudflats = flat water). N/NW/NE onshore = choppy Waddenzee conditions (not suitable here). April–September best. Spectacular seabird and seal environment.

Hazards

Tidal — kite only 3 hours before and after high tide. Stay clear of the ferry dam and nearby fairway. Strong currents near the navigation channel. Best season: April–September.
