Pointe de l'Or is the most accessible wave spot on the Dakhla peninsula, located on the Atlantic side just a 5-minute 4x4 drive from the lagoon camps (New Spirit Dakhla notably). The peninsula is only 2 km wide at this point — lagoon on one side, ocean on the other.
Mid-sized beach break over entirely sandy bottom, with no rocks or obstacles. Rocky outcrop at the southern end forms a sheltered bay. Spectacular scenery between the blue Atlantic and Saharan dunes.
In summer (April-Oct), strong consistent wind but conditions often blown out — great for jumping and freestyle in the waves. In winter (Oct-March), more moderate wind, cleaner and longer swells — perfect for long rides down-the-line in clean waves. The sweet spot.
Very uncrowded — you'll rarely encounter other riders outside your group. Excursions organized by camps (Dakhla Attitude at 30€ return with safety crew, New Spirit in groups of 4+). Pure surf sessions possible on windless days.
Excursions organized by lagoon camps: New Spirit Dakhla (closest, 5 min), Dakhla Attitude, Ocean Vagabond, Dakhla Spirit. No school on site — coaching via camps.
Atlantic-side beach break. Medium waves 0.5-2m, sandy bottom, no obstacles. Rocky point at the south creates a bay. Dominant NNE side-shore wind. Summer: blown out but big jumps. Winter: clean waves, long rides. High tide = shore break. Kites 7-12m.
Beach break over 100% sandy bottom — no rocks, no obstacles. Waves 0.5-2m depending on swell and season. Shore break at high tide. Water 19-23°C. Wetsuit 3/2mm, shorty possible in summer. Moderate current.

Year-round. Best wave season: October-March (clean swells, moderate wind). Summer: blown out waves but big jumps. September-October = ideal wind + wave combo. Excursions on days with swell and no wind (surf) or moderate wind (wave kite).
Accessible only by 4x4 — very soft sand, do not attempt in a regular car. 5 min drive from lagoon-side camps (New Spirit Dakhla closest). Excursions organized by most camps: Dakhla Attitude (30€ return with beach safety + instructor), New Spirit (groups of 4 min). Parking directly on the beach.
Shore break at high tide — caution launching/landing. Strong summer wind can surprise (30+ knots). Isolated ocean-side spot — no permanent rescue, always ride with company. Intense Saharan sun — protection essential. Soft sand on access track — risk of getting stuck in a regular car.
Dominant NNE side-shore wind. April-October: strong and consistent, 20-35 knots, wave conditions often choppy/blown out. October-March: more moderate, 15-22 knots, much cleaner waves. Wind on the ocean side is generally slightly lighter and gustier than on the lagoon.
