Overview

Rigolets is a kitesurf spot located at the Rigolets Pass, the natural strait connecting Lake Pontchartrain to Lake Borgne and the Gulf of Mexico, at the eastern end of New Orleans. This spot is more exposed than Lake Pontchartrain spots due to its connection with Gulf waters. Tidal currents flowing through the pass can be powerful. The spot offers more dynamic conditions than mid-lake, recommended for experienced riders.

Rigolets Pass waters, mix of fresh lake water and salt water from the Gulf. Significant tidal currents flowing through the strait. The water can be choppy with current. Variable bottom, sandy to muddy. Warm water in summer. More demanding conditions than on the lake due to currents.

Hazards

Strong tidal currents in the pass that can carry riders away. Heavy boat traffic in this navigable passage. Alligators frequent in this transition zone. Sudden tropical thunderstorms. Conditions can change rapidly with tides. Sometimes unpredictable bottom with debris. Spot reserved for experienced riders.
