On the water

The water body faces the Gulf of Mexico with a white sandy bottom. Conditions are generally calm — flat to light chop in westerly winds. The gulf water is warm and clear. Sandbars offshore offer interesting shallow areas. The proximity to Tampa Bay entrance can create currents during tide changes.

Hazards

In easterly winds, conditions are offshore toward the gulf — do not ride. Tidal currents possible near Tampa Bay entrance (Passage Key). Watch for stingrays. The beach is family-oriented — respect other users. Boat traffic is present near the passes.
