Overview

The Don Cesar is a kitesurfing spot located at St. Pete Beach, on the west coast of the Pinellas peninsula, facing the Gulf of Mexico. Named after the historic pink Don CeSar hotel (1928), this spot offers a long white sand beach facing west. In west to northwest winds, conditions are flat to lightly choppy with occasional small waves. St. Pete Beach is regularly ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the United States. It's an excellent spot for sunset sessions facing the gulf.

On the water

The water body faces the Gulf of Mexico with a gently sloping white sandy bottom. In westerly winds (onshore), conditions range from flat to light chop. In southwest or northwest winds, small waves can form. The gulf water is warm and generally calmer than the Atlantic. Sandbars offshore create flat water areas at low tide.

Hazards

In easterly winds, conditions are offshore toward the gulf — do not ride. The beach is very busy with tourists — maintain safe distances. Longshore drift currents possible. Watch for stingrays in the sand. Check local kite regulations at St. Pete Beach.
