KI SURF

KI SURF is a surf shop in Asahi, in north-eastern Chiba prefecture, with an in-house surf school. The shop sells new gear and used boards, runs an online store and rents boards and wetsuits. Free parking is available.

The school runs all year round, in the rain too, unless conditions are dangerous (strong wind, big waves, thunderstorms, typhoons). It takes beginners, intermediate and advanced surfers, with private lessons, a one-night stay package and video coaching. Groups are small: at most 4 to 5 students per instructor, from age 5.

There are two sessions a day, 10:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 16:00, with early-morning or evening sessions on request. The website stresses a welcoming atmosphere for people who come alone, and the aim of training surfers up to pro level.

Shop: 9:00 to 19:00. Closed on Tuesdays from November to May; open daily from June to October.
