Sleeping Bear Surf

Sleeping Bear Surf is a surf shop in Empire, in northern Michigan, close to the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Lake Michigan. Open since 2004, the shop sells surfboards, stand up paddleboards, foils and wings, skimboards, bodyboards and skateboards, along with cold-water gear: wetsuits, boots, gloves and hoods.

It rents surfboards, paddleboards, skimboards, bodyboards, large group paddleboards and bikes, gives surf lessons, and runs a youth camp (Junior Waterman Camp) as well as an autumn camp. The website also covers tips for surfing the Great Lakes, forecasting, water safety and rescue, and a wave cam.

Late-summer hours: Monday to Saturday 11 am to 5 pm, Sunday 12 to 3 pm (according to the website); online shop always open.
