Hotel Presentation

Punta Luna Surf Lodge is a wooden lodge standing right on the beach inside the Illescas National Reserve, in northern Peru (Piura region). Its website describes it as the only accommodation inside this 38,000-hectare park. The place was discovered by Peruvian surfer and kiteboarding pioneer Fernando "Wawa" Paraud, who built a sustainable house there; the lodge is now run by Martin Vari, a three-time kiteboarding world champion.

The house runs on solar power (solar hot water, Starlink satellite Wi-Fi, TV) and sleeps up to 10 guests in 4 en-suite rooms of 40 m², each with a deck, a hammock and an ocean view. The ground floor has an enclosed living area, a TV room and a space for yoga or stretching; upstairs are the dining area and the open kitchen. A crib is available, and the lodge describes itself as family-friendly.

Meals are included: American-style breakfast, lunch and a full dinner, with fresh fish when available, mixing international dishes and Peruvian specialities and adapted to dietary needs on request. Non-alcoholic drinks are included, alcohol is extra, and snacks, fruit, coffee and tea are available all day.

For water sports, the website reports a thermal side-offshore wind of 18 to 25 knots from early afternoon to late in the day on more than 300 days a year (kitesurfing, windsurfing, wingfoiling), and calm mornings for surfing and paddling, with waves right at the beach and at several other breaks in the reserve, two of them within walking distance. The lodge offers kite assembly, help with a jet ski or ATV depending on availability, and surf, paddle, kite and wingfoil gear, partly included in the stay and partly rented on request. It does not run lessons on site: instructors can be arranged, and group coaching weeks are organised. There is no supermarket or pharmacy in the reserve; the lodge keeps a first aid kit.

Getting there: about 2 hours by road from Piura airport to the park entrance, then 50 minutes off-road. The lodge can arrange a 4x4 (4 passengers plus luggage); if you have your own 4x4, the team meets you at the park entrance. Rooms are limited and most bookings are made 8 to 12 months ahead. Rates are available on request by email, phone or WhatsApp.
