Hotel Presentation
Wyoming High Country Lodge is a mountain lodge open year round, set at about 9,000 feet (2,700 m) in an alpine meadow of the Bighorn Mountains in northern Wyoming. It operates under a special use permit from the Bighorn National Forest and offers rooms and cabins, meals and outdoor activities.
In winter the lodge is a well-known snowkite base: its website has a dedicated snowkite page, and the Big Horn Snowkite Summit, a week-long gathering of snowkiters, has been held there several times. The gentle slopes, bowls and wide meadows around the lodge suit beginners and advanced riders alike, and conditions are usually good from December to March. Many guests skin out the front door to chase the wind, others bring snowmobiles to switch spots during the day; the lodge helps arrange snowmobile rentals.
Winter access is by snowcat: staff meet guests at the Crystal Creek parking lot for the last 5 miles (8 km), for $50 per trip between 9 am and 6 pm. This is not a school: snowkiters bring their own gear.
