Hotel Monte Leone

The Hotel Monte Leone is a family-run hotel and restaurant at the top of the Simplon Pass, at 2,005 m in Upper Valais, on the road linking Brig to Domodossola. Run by the Zaino family (Gastro Simplon GmbH), it occupies a round building recognisable by its pink tower. It has 14 rooms, a sauna for hotel guests and a restaurant serving Italian and Swiss specialities, with a 100-seat panoramic room; a souvenir kiosk completes the premises.

For snowkiting, the hotel is the base of the Swiss Snowkiting School, the school operating on the pass. Its winter packages include nights in a double room with breakfast at the Monte Leone: two nights for the Beginner, Transition and Kite & Fly packs, four nights for the three-day training camp. Lessons start right next to the hotel, where the "Simplon, Monte Leone" bus stop and the car park are; the freeride and freestyle area lies across the road, opposite the hotel, and the training plain is a little further down. The hotel, for its part, invites guests to come and eat after a lesson at the snowkite school.

No kite service of the hotel's own is published: no storage room or gear drying is advertised, rental and teaching being handled by the school. Packages are booked through the school; a room alone is booked directly with the hotel.
