Playa La Olla, Parada 3 de la Brava, Punta del Este · Maldonado · Uruguay
School Presentation
Escuela de Surf La Olla teaches surfing at La Olla beach, at parada 3 of Playa Brava, in Punta del Este (Maldonado department). It describes itself as the first surf school in Uruguay, open since 1998, and is run by Juan Malek, an International Surfing Association (ISA) certified coach.
Lessons are for children from age 4 and for adults, from beginner to advanced, in groups or privately; students are grouped by level and age. A session lasts 1 hour 15 minutes: 15 minutes of warm-up, theory and technique on the sand, then one hour in the water. Equipment is included (Billabong wetsuit and a foam or fibreglass board suited to the level). The spot has a point break for advanced surfers and a beach break for beginners and intermediates.
The school also rents surfboards and wetsuits, and prepares tailor-made surf camps for groups, clubs, associations and companies. It states that it follows the safety rules of the ISA, the Maldonado municipality and the port authority, working with the Maldonado lifeguards.
