Learn to Surf Newcastle

Learn to Surf Newcastle is a Surfing Australia accredited surf school run by Miles Niddrie. Founded in 2004 as Redhead Mobile Surf School, it took its current name in 2012 to reflect its reach across the Newcastle area. It is council approved and open all year, including winter.

Lessons are mobile: they run at different beaches between Stockton and Catherine Hill Bay, with each session timed to the tide and surf, so they vary day to day. The school says it was the first in Newcastle to offer lower coach-to-surfer ratios, in 2004.

The programme includes group lessons for ages 5 and up and for adults, private lessons by appointment, the SurfTeens programme, multi-week programmes for women (Her Wave), a surf and skate programme, and NRMA SurfGroms, for which the school is the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie delivery centre. Active Kids vouchers are accepted.

Lessons all year; times vary with tides and surf, and minimum numbers may apply.
