Adventure Vikings - Surf School

Adventure Vikings is an outdoor-activity operator based in Reykjavík, whose surf school introduces beginners to surfing on the black-sand beach at Þórlákshöfn, about 50 km from the capital. Lessons last three hours on location, with an English-speaking instructor.

Wetsuit and surf equipment are provided. Groups range from 8 to 14 people, adults as well as children accompanied by an adult, and participants must be able to swim. Departure depends on the tides and conditions: participants are notified two to four days ahead and can rejoin free of charge if a session is cancelled for lack of swell or weather.

The company also rents surf equipment from its Gylfaflöt base in Reykjavík, and rents out GoPro cameras.

Three-hour sessions, preferably at weekends, depending on tide and conditions; waiting list for sessions.
