Rautio Sports Surf Center

The Kalajoki Surf Center, run by Rautio Sports, presents itself as Finland's biggest surf centre. Open since spring 2011, it sits on the Hiekkasärkät beach inside Kalajoki Camping, the country's largest camping resort, whose restaurant, showers and accommodation are available to its customers.

The shallow, sandy shore is a good platform for learning on flat water, in windsurfing as well as kitesurfing, and for jumping; with the right wind direction you can also surf waves. The centre offers beginner courses in windsurfing (simply called "surfing" in Finland), kitesurfing and SUP, equipment rental, equipment testing, tailored programmes for groups and demo events.

In winter it rents ice and snow gear (winter windsurfing, kitewing, kites and ski sleds) and teaches on the frozen sea from mid-January to the end of March, weather permitting. Rental equipment is this season's models: Starboard, Severne, Avanti, Airush, SU-2 and Red Paddle Co. The centre also rents bikes, including e-bikes.

It is open daily from June to the end of August, 11 am to 7 pm, and on demand from September to May.
