The Kiteboarding School of Maui (KSM) has been teaching kiteboarding in Kahului since 1999 and describes itself as the first licensed kiteboarding school in Maui County. It is IKO-affiliated and carries general liability insurance.
Private and semi-private lessons suit beginners as well as intermediate and advanced riders, in kiteboarding and wing. Riders who already kite can book a private foil kiteboarding lesson or a three-day Elite package. Some instructors speak French, Polish and Russian, and they hold American Red Cross CPR/First Aid and IKO and/or PASA certification.
The meeting point is in the Kanaha area: park in the Kanaha Beach Park lot and meet the instructors on the ocean side of Amala Place, just past its intersection with Kaa Street. Lessons run year-round, starting at 10:30 am or 2 pm; the best season is May to October.
