Poki Surf Morocco

Poki Surf Morocco is a surf school on the bay of Agadir, on Boulevard du 20 Août. It was founded by Ismail, known as Poki, who was born and raised in Agadir, taught himself to surf at eight and qualified as an instructor with the International Surfing Association in 2005, and by Ulrike, who moved from Germany to Morocco in early 2023 and runs the business side. It is the only school in the bay mapped as a surf school in OpenStreetMap.

Lessons are taught in groups of no more than six per instructor, in pairs, one to one or as family sessions, from age ten upwards in group lessons and younger in private ones. Every coach is ISA certified and trained as a lifeguard. The school collects students from their accommodation and picks the spot that best suits their level each day, anywhere between Tifnit to the south and Tamri to the north; beginners usually stay on Agadir beach. Board, wetsuit and leash are provided, and each session opens with a warm-up and a theory briefing on the sand.

Alongside lessons, Poki Surf Morocco runs full-day and half-day surf guiding, a day trip to Imsouane, equipment rental, sandboarding and Surf & Stay packages with rooms in a small boutique hotel. Coaching is available in French, English, German and Arabic.

No fixed opening hours are published: sessions follow the swell and the tide, and the exact time is confirmed the day before the lesson. A lesson day runs 3 to 4 hours, of which 2 hours are spent in the water, travel to the spot not included. Last-minute bookings are usually accepted, with one day's notice advised. No opening or closing season is announced.
